Learning about the Mediterranean Diet
Why the Mediterranean Diet: My Story
The Mediterranean Diet has drastically changed my life over the last 14 years. I was brought up during the crazy dieting of the 70's by a Mom who was constantly trying anything to lose weight and feel better. From Weight Watchers to Overeaters Anonymous to the cabbage soup diet to dangerous hypodermic needles shot directly into her kidneys, my Mom tried it all.

How to Make Perfect Boiled Eggs
Mediterranean Living is excited to bring Blaise The Baker to Mediterranean Living to share his foolproof recipe for perfect hard boiled eggs. Here is what Bliase had to share about his recipe: People message me at least three to four times a week, asking for help and advice on making boiled eggs. So many things can determine if your eggs come out correctly, and people have so many questions. How fresh do the eggs need to be? Do I start with cold water, warm water, or does it matter? What if I boil them longer than I should? How many can I boil at a time?
Cooking, Eating, Napping: Life on the Healthiest Island in the World (Crete, Greece)
The Mediterranean Diet is considered one of the healthiest in the world. And, the Greek island of Crete is a great place to explore this traditional, healthy diet. The unique climate of Crete allows everything to grow in abundance. Wherever you travel in Crete, you are surrounded by olive trees. Cretans consume the most olive oil of anybody in the world. This is one of the keys to their extremely healthy way of life. The Cretan diet consists of lots of olive oil, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and small amounts of meat and fish. Cretans also consume moderate amounts of wine and Raki, the local aperitif. They cook everything in olive oil and they hardly use butter. Butter is used for certain dishes and special occasions like rice pilaf. Could this way of eating explain why Cretans have some of the lowest rate of heart disease in the world? This is certainly part of it.
