Our Top 10 Gluten Free Recipes

In Mediterranean cultures, sourdough breads, flatbreads, filo dough and other little pastry creations are a traditional element of the diet. However, there are many other foods that can take center stage instead, that are just as delicious. If you are living a gluten free lifestyle, you will be able to find plenty of ways to eat healthy AND gluten free.

From polenta to risotto, from potato crusts to delicious quinoa and oatmeal breakfasts, there are a variety of options for substitutions that will keep you satiated and happy. We love Eastern Mediterranean desserts made with almond and other alternative flours. You can have your cake and eat it too!

Across the Mediterranean, you will find that ancient gluten free grains are used in traditional cooking. Some of these grains are native to the Mediterranean, while others have come from other parts of the world and become part of the diet. Look to gluten free grains, and recipes using these grains as a way to create some of your favorite breads, desserts and more.

Oldways’ Whole Grains Council has a great Gluten Free Whole Grains article that includes a list of grains, both gluten and non gluten with gluten and gluten free grains.

“This program is a way of life, one which I have adopted successfully, and more importantly one which I have sustained for over one year now. My weight remains steady at 160 pounds (down from 216). My energy levels rival that of someone 20 years younger than me (I’m now 57), enabling me to exercise in any way that I desire, from lifting weights to intense cardio sessions.”
— Michael Little

“After completing my 10-week program, I had a regularly-scheduled appointment with my doctor. Because my cholesterol has always been above the normal range (229 last year) I requested that she test it again this year. I’m happy to report that my total cholesterol dropped to 169, which is in the normal range, and all my other numbers improved as well.”
